Do you have Windows XP? After installing your modems drivers, just start the internet connection wizard and choose

    connect to the internet

    set up my connection manually

and, if you use a number...

    connect using dial-up-modem

    then enter your details

this may be right, your ISP should give you detailed instructions, look on their website.

i dont think i can install the modem

as the adsl cabel goes from the phone socket to the back of the modem/router
and the network cabel from pc to the back of the router/modem

I dont know how you set up such a connection with a dial-up number, look round your ISP's site or ask them, or perhaps somone here knows.

You don't need a dial up number.

Use the auto-setup on the Netgear.

0,38 is the standard dail up number for ADSL in the UK, but as Cagedsaid with a router you don't dail up. You just have to enter your user name and password in the router setup software and click the save button, not sure if all routers the same but that's how mine works.

After that it just connects to the net it's self each time it's turned on.

0/38 is the VPI/VCI number used for ADSL operation within the UK. You change this number depending where you are in the world as they all use differing setups.

All you should need is your username which you put in the router config screen (if its an actual router) and possibly your password but BT normally autheticate you using your phone number by CLI.

I am not familiar with that modem so dont know exact screens to put those details in.
