Fast Broadband 40Mb but video Streaming is lagging why?

Hi All

Have got a good solid FTTC connection and downloads are very good but when it comes to streaming video from You Tube and other video clip sites it lags on any quality setting?


Is this down to both site being having a high traffic load or is there some tweaks i could do?

Am using Firefox but have tried other browsers with same results.

That doesn't sound like your problem. Are you using wireless or anything on your home network that could slow it down ?
Otherwise I'd call your ISP about getting the traffic prioritised.

If hes getting good download speeds but cant stream properly it could well be an issue with his computer. Does it do it on all machines in your house.

It is worth speaking to your ISP too but i cant see it being them really.

It may well be ISP related, who are you with?

BeThere are having an issue with iPlayer at the moment due to contention issues between their network and the providers network (akamai?). As such, despite my broadband connection being fine, the overall load through that pipe causes stuttering/playback issues.

Ditto VM and Spotify.
If normal files are DL at good speeds then there would appear to be a problem with that particular connection, rather than his overall system or network.

Need more information on the ISP?

I'm with Be There and there has been a continuing problem with streaming from Youtube even basic non HD videos and I'm on a 23mb sync speed. They appeared to fix the problem a few months back but it has recently returned. I'm moving over to fibre soon so interested which ISP has these issues.

I am with Plusnet Extra Fibre, using it off a LAN cable not off Wifi. Checked with house mate and he was having same problem and was not downloading.
Iplayer seems to work fine i have found but others like You tube and catchup TV lag : (

Have just tried Google chrome and its much quicker than Firefox when using sites such as Facebook, as that was another problem i was having when viewing Pics.

If you dont mind me saying but i had the same problem a few years back with pipex .My download speed was great but when streaming it was crap.I rang them and after 4 days they reduced my speed a little,i ranted and raved only to find that the streaming issue had gone and browsing the internet was faster So it does indicate that the problem is them

Thanks, it has been a bit better lately but if i does happen again i will give them a call.
