Thumbs up Why you want to move to Preston...

    Preston rolls out city-centre Wifi

"Preston has become the first English city to offer comprehensive wire-free internet coverage in the city centre.

The technology, known as wi-fi, means people with laptops and PDAs will be able to surf the web or pick up emails in "hotspots" without cables.

The scheme - which is a joint project between the council and the University of Central Lancashire (Uclan) - has a £60 annual subscription fee."

That's a fiver a month for wireless internet access...unfortunately it's only the city centre, but still...

Godamn that's good. Wow. Wonder what the coverage is like in the town (I still can't get used to calling it a city) centre, and how far it extends out, coverage indoors etc. 100 access points doesn't sound much to cover such a large town centre. Shame it won't extend to Eccleston

Well, if you think about it, the actual city centre isn't HUGE - and if we're talking about your outdoor APs with high gain antennae and all that jazz, 100 APs are more than you'd think...

Well, just signed up for the free trial of 30 days. Depending on how bored I am I may go wardriving later on tonight and see what the coverage/speeds are like. Wish my P900 had WLAN capability as it might make shopping in the town centre bearable.
