    Which Router?

Just upgraded my O2 broadband to the works package and am not impressed with the standard wireless box iv (says wireless n when in reality its n150) so am looking for a new router as the old belkin one I have doesn't play nicely with my wireless repeater (Edimax EW-7416APn). I'm drawn between the Netgear DGN2200 or the Edimax AR-7267WNA. Both seem to have similar features with regards to NAT/DMZ etc (looking at setting up some routing for exchange/rds externally for testing/exam work) but can't decide which would be better. Any suggestions?

    Re: Which Router?

Haven't used either of them but I can highly recommend the TP-Link 1043ND flashed with DD-WRT.

300Mb Wifi.....extremely good range, gigabit switch and an amazing price for the spec.

whats the tp-link like compared to the edimax and netgear ones I listed? user reviews look good for this but expert reviews seem to put this down

    Re: Which Router?

TP-Link seem quite new on the scene. A friend of mine bought the 1043ND and I borrowed it from him to use as I wanted to try DD-WRT before purchasing a capable router (this was after saying to him "TP-Who?").....after a couple of weeks using it my Cisco got removed as it didn't do anything the TP-Link didn't.

After almost a year with it now and I am ecstatic with it. As stable as the Cisco but tons easier to setup.

Based on that purchase I have bought a few other bits of TP-Link gear (switches and NICs) and it's all worked perfectly, no fussing.

    I highly recommend it.

    Re: Which Router?

thats certainly put a spanner in the works. my only concern now is the compatibility between my existing edimax access point and the TP-Link router. Not had any problems of dropouts with the O2 Wireless box IV. I've also found a newer version of the one recommended (TD-W8961ND). Decision time I think!

I'll remember that! Shame seeing as they're effectively rebranded Cisco kit. Just 3 to choose from now! Guess I should get the one that has the best NAT features and customisation options, which looks on paper like the TP-Link but it's damn ugly!

    Re: Which Router?

I'm very happy with my TP-Link WR1043ND. I've set it up running OpenWRT and it's now miles better than many other more expensive routers. It has 802.11N at 300Mbps, gigabit ethernet and OpenWRT will let you do anything you can do in Linux.

All OpenWRT routers will support IPv6 if you set it up, look on their wiki for details. I've got mine with IPv6 running on a Hurricane Electric tunnel.

I would personally suggest OpenWRT over DD-WRT, it's a lot cleaner internally and has much nicer configuration as it was all designed to work together. It also has an apt like package manager and luci (it's web front end) is really good. There is a really nice theme for it too called Bootstrap (http://nut-bolt.nl/2012/openwrt-boot...heme-for-luci/).

    Re: Which Router?

Thanks. Just a shame none of these routers are adsl otherwise would have got one. It's looking like the TP link is going to win it. Not fussed about USB port and it seems to have the most functionality. Just hope it plays nice with my wireless repeater.

    Re: Which Router?

If you can run to it a Billion 7800N is really top notch. They can sometimes be found for under £80, are proper enterprise solutions and we found our download speed increased by 1MBps over our old Netgear.
