    About to give up

Been trying for ages to get this setup to work hope you can shed some light on it. Currently have a D-Link DSL-2640R ADSL modem router. It works fine but the wi-fi signal around the house
is poor in certain areas. So i decided to add in a D-Link DWL-2100AP Access point with the intention of using it as a repeater using an amplifier as well.. Problem is I cannot get access to the repeater when ethernet wired into the router. I have checked that all things seems compatible ie SSID, channel, security etc. I am sure that i should be able to access the repeater when connected
via the router. Am I correct?

    Thanks

Other than not being able to access the repeater (I assume you mean the web management interface?) does it otherwise appear to be working as you'd expect?

What IP address has the repeater got? What's the IP address of your router? What's the IP address of the computer you're trying to access the repeater from?

I've not used D-Link stuff in this way but have used other brands and have been able to access the repeater no matter how I'm connected.

    Re: About to give up

The repeater almost certainly has a static IP and there is a fairly decent chance that it will either:

    a) Be the same as your router, causing a clash
    or
    b) On a different subnet and not be reachable unless you add the required routing to get to it

Probably best to check the IP of your router, then plug the repeater directly into your PC and set it up within the same subnet as the router before plugging it into the router. So, if the router is 192.168.1.1 make the repeater 192.168.1.250 (or something similar)

    Re: About to give up

    Hi

My thread started about to give up well I have. Spent ages on it getting nowhere. Checked IP addresses, subnets etc etc etc as you both suggested. Just seems like to much hassle configuring these two bits of kit to work together. I've now just connected an amplifier to the output of the router and the wi-fi signal throughout the house is in my opinion now satisfactory, much better than it was.
    Once again thanks guys.

    Re: About to give up

To configure the device you want to use as a repeater you will need to connect an Ethernet cable to its port to carry out the initial configuration, you will not be able to initially connect to it wirelessly.

Ok apologies, trying to dip in between jobs at work.

Let me look up the device and we'll see what we can do.

    Re: About to give up

Address of the device is supposed to be 192.168.0.50

Username is supposed to be admin and password is blank by default

Looking at the diagram in ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireless/DWL-2...nual_v1.00.pdf it looks like there needs to be a wired connection between the device and the router in the first instance at least, make sure you enter the Mac address of your router along with the encryption key.
