Failure to connect to internet using a NETGEAR DG834Gv3 router

Not my week so far yet another problem. Been trying all day to connect to the internet with the above router. Happened accross a screen saying Firewall settings.
It says for the inbound services "BLOCK always" is this my problem?
I have tried to amend this to " ALLOW always" to which the outbound services are already set.

My next problem is it is asking for the inbound services to be adjusted so I have setthe service parameter to ALL, action ALLOW always but now is the problem it wants an address putting into the 4 boxes for the Send to LAN Server parameter
I have tried various setting but to no avail. Exactly where can I get this information from?
Another thought I have just had is that not knowing the history of this router it may possibly be an ex
SKY one and in that case I may replace the firmware with NETGEAR firmware.

Sorry if it's not overly clear but I'm a heathen when it comes to this sort of thing.

    Thanks

The firewall settings won't be causing the problem. The reason it is asking for an IP address in the 'send to LAN server' setting is that you're actually setting up port forwarding, so forwarding connections from computers on the internet to the host on your internal network with the IP address you specify.

Does the Netgear report as being connected? I don't have one to hand so can't remember what it is called but there's a page where it'll show you connection statistics and stuff like that, what does it say there? What colour is the i light on the front?

    Login to the router:

    Web browser > http://192.168.0.1

Login with: Username: admin / PW: password

    Go to "Router Status"

and see if it's actually connected (half way down where it says Modem Status)

you might also want to try a reset to factory conditions.

Re: Failure to connect to internet using a NETGEAR DG834Gv3 router

Right here is where I am up to. Loaded latest firmware. Using wizard setup is sometimes decides its PPPoE and sometimes PPPoA as it should be. Lately its decided on USA channel 3 for some reason whereas before was correct in Europe Channel 11

Am not allowed to attach files, no idea why, so have had to copy contents.

    Netgear Router

    Account Name
    Firmware Version V4.03.04

    ADSL Port
    MAC Address 00:18:4d:af:01:c7
    IP Address 46.208.120.185
    Network Type PPPoA
    IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
    Gateway IP Address 195.166.128.191
    Domain Name Server 212.159.6.10
    212.159.6.9

    LAN Port
    MAC Address 00:18:4d:af:01:c6
    IP Address 192.168.0.1
    DHCP On
    IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

    Modem
    ADSL Firmware Version 5.00.03.00
    Modem Status Connected
    DownStream Connection Speed 1856 kbps
    UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
    VPI 0
    VCI 38

    Wireless Port
    Name (SSID) NETGEAR
    Region USA
    Channel 3
    Wireless AP Enabled
    Broadcast Name Enabled

    PC Lan connection

    IPv4 Address 192.168.1.50
    IPv4 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    IPv4 Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
    IPv4 DHCP Server 192.168.1.1
    IPv4 DNS Server 192.168.1.1

What I find odd is that the figure of 198.162.1.1 is the address used to access the setup of my current D-Link router. I am confused.

Re: Failure to connect to internet using a NETGEAR DG834Gv3 router

Is your dlink router still attached to your network? try disabling dhcp on it?
Your computer is trying to go through dlink (192.168.1.1) for the internet rather than netgear (192.168.0.1)

Re: Failure to connect to internet using a NETGEAR DG834Gv3 router

Well done Blastuk. Disconnected D-Link router and replaced on same PC lan connection with the Netgear one, now works fine. I'm not
really sure why every time I do the setup wizard it alternates between one time setting as PPPoE ( with no internet connection) and the next time I
run the wizard it sees it as PPPoA( and I have a connection) likewise if I run it yet again it goes back to PPPoE and so on, most odd. It still thinks im
in the USA on channel 3 but hey who cares.
Many thanks to all of you for your time and effort is is much appreciated.
