    Cable Help!!

Ok i already have always had a computer upstairs running the internet (networked) from my pc but i have just decided to connect a third pc so i have connected a nic card and that works , but this is where i am having problems. i have two cables that i have for running it to the third pc, but when i run these from the new or old nic card they dnt get a connection, the other cable goin to the second pc seems different it has a short cable(looks the same as he others its just black) and then it is connected to a wire the same as the other ones i have when i take away the shortwire and put in any other cable i have i dont get a connection but i do with the short one.

is there a special sort of wire i need for running out of a pc because on this wire it says utp cat.5e patch iso/iec .

    PLEASE HELP!!

Whoa i dont really get what your talking about

Can you explain what exactly you had connected before and what you have now.

Do you have a switch, hub or router or are you just connecting all the cables form computer to computer?
Chances are one of your cables is a crossover? If you connect a cable direct from one NIC to another you will need a crossover cable. If you have three computers you really need a switch or hub in which case you need plain patch cables to connect each NIC to the hub.

Yeah that would work. So do you have two NICs in one of the PCs? If so your going to have fun getting them to work ICS etc.

If this is the case Paul Adams gave a detailed description of what to do in this thread.
I never tried it because I reckoned it would be simpler to get a switch
