In the market for a new Wireless Router

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently looking about for a new wireless router. For years I've been using my Linksys WRT54GS without issue but the wireless range has always been a bit weak but nothing too serious.

Recently we got upgraded to VM 60Mb BB and got the new "Superhub", which I decided to give a fair chance. Needless to say I'm not impressed.

I would switch back to my old router but I have enjoyed the gigabit lan on the superhub. My main issue with the VM Superhub is its unreliable wireless, which is always dropping out.

Any advice or suggestions would be great

reset hub to factory settings then change channel to 6 or 11, test on both to see which gives you best connection, important that you reset to factory defaults first.

Otherwise - TP Link appear to be garnering a good rep with affordable gigabit devices, theres a few others on the market as well around the 35-40 quid mark that perform well. Some folks appear to like DD-WRT flashed devices, but have no personal experience of this so can't comment.

When you say test the connection on each channel, do you mean do a speed test or actually use the hub on each channel for a few days to see which performs best.

There have been a lot of very positive reviews for the Asus routers of late, I'd go for one of those if I were you (e.g. Asus N56 or N66).

Hi Dareos thanks for the reply.

I had already tried what you suggested before hand. Tested several different channels for a few days and did a factor reset each time too. I did think it stopped dropping on when I reset and changed to channel 7 but after 3 days it started again.

Thanks for the suggestions, TP Link is one I'm considering. I am familiar with DD-WRT, I was using it on my old Linksys router while at uni.

    Hi saj1977,

when testing channels I normally reset and select a channel, then get a wireless device (Phone, laptop, tablet etc) to test the strength of the wireless around the house, making notes of which is stronger. Then leave it for a few days to see if it drops out or not. If it's going to drop out in my experience it will normally within 2-5 days.

Also! you can normally download a program or app which will use the wireless of your device to scan the wireless networks it can pick up with its range. It will let you know what channels are being used by those networks.
