    Speedtouch 510v4 - Routed IP + NAT

I've been emailed this by Speedtouch UK, which relates to having routed IP clients and NAT clients set up on the same network:

I think what I want to do is detailed on slide 29, but the whole thing confuses me a bit to be honest. Can anyone try and make it a bit simpler for me .

    Thanks

BTW: It's a PowerPoint slideshow, you can get the viewer off the MS site.

    Hey there Caged!

Easy as pie (if I think what you are asking is what I'm thinking of!).

First of all, you need to enable 'NAT' on your router perferably via the config script. Then on the machines you want a 'static ip' - in network prefs/properties (what ever OS etc) you set the IP address you want, say 10.0.0.1 for the first machine, gateway/DNS as 10.0.0.138 (router). As a backup use 4.2.2.1/4.2.2.2 for DNS servers (helps people in the UK alot from my experience) as well.

Now go back to the router and under 'DNS' enter an entry such as 'PCNAME' - 10.0.0.1

If you go do a ping PCNAME in cmd you'll find that it resolves now!

Now say you have a server running apache on port 80 and you want it to be access by your friends. Simple. Go to NAPT and set internal ip to server ip, port 80. outbound addy as 0.0.0.0 (this will be replaced with the current WAN ip @ that time!) and port 80 as well...voila! After doing a 'Save All' go to cmd and 'telnet 10.0.0.138'

Enter 'Alcatel' as user and pass which is your DSL connection password.

    Now do:

    nat (return)
    list (return)

This should at the end show your new routed template!

    exit (return)

Once all this is set, go to Setup and save the config script which includes the new settings.

Only thing, go through the Speedtouch script and remove the backdoor installed by Alcatel. Leave that there and you could get 'hacked' pretty easily

    Mike
