Setting up a wireless network from a 3G dongle
How easy would it be to create a wireless network from a 3G device without a router/WAP?
In this scenario my friend is connecting a USB 3G dongle to a desktop PC which currently has no network card. If he was to purchase a bog standard PCI wireless network card, could he then create a wireless network from which other laptops could connect?
If so, would he need some special software to setup an SSID etc or could it be done through Windows?
Re: Setting up a wireless network from a 3G dongle
it would be a lot of faff to do this. Best thing is scrounge an old wifi router with a USB port that will accept a mobile dongle. Alternatively 3 (and presumably others too) do a "mifi" unit that acts as a wifi router from a mobile broadband sim and is probably the thing you're after.

I use a TP-link 3G Wireless router
You should be able to pick on up for about £25

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I've not heard of a mifi unit before so will investigate further.
Re: Setting up a wireless network from a 3G dongle
I tried sharing my 3G connection via WiFi on my old laptop but the wireless card didn't support acting as a hotspot. Some of them do though, should be fairly easy to set up if that's the case.
