To Google or not to Google.

Since it's inception, Google has grown massively - beyond even the founders' expectations.

Owing to the fact that they managed to design a meta search engine that offered a more comprehensive set of results than any of its rivals, was less strict on filtering, and perhaps most importantly, it boasted a simple, efficient landing page, that didnt take an age to load.

But as Google has expanded, so has its grip over the IT consumer market, and over the privacy of most web users. With an unashamed use of tracking cookies / spyware for advertising, intrusive email analysing systems, and sway over 'priority' search results (case in point being interflora UK - http://www.computerweekly.com/news/2...EO-regulations), is it time for an another, less aggressive and intrusive search engine to take the reigns?

Personally, i'm getting a little sick of 'the powers that be' using their bully boy policies, and intrusive technologies to control what we - the user can do, or where we can go.

Re: To Google or not to Google.

I do have a bit of an issue with the all seeing Google and the lack of privacy. I did make an effort to switch my search engine of choice from Google to DuckDuckGo. But, Google won me back with the generally better search results, and becuase DuckDuckGo don't appear to acknowledge the existance of the UK yet.

Has anyone used the changed google product search yet? Anyone like it?
