BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

Both BE broadband and O2 broadband (and landline, only not mobile or other bits) have been bought up buy sky.

Not change in service as yet, but at some point "this autumn" customers will be moved across and new contracts with sky will need to be made.
No real info other than that atm http://www.sky.com/shop/welcome/faq/
I'm a BE customer, I really liked BE, so now I'm digging into broadband again trying to find out things like what will sky cost? is it any good? what are the alternatives?

Still early days and a lack of info.

Thought I should post this as a heads up if there are any other O2 or BE customers here.

I think it was mentioned on here last month.

Its not nice and I hope they don't think I will be signing any new contracts for 12 / 18 / 24 months etc.

If it's anything like the pipex/bulldog buy outs nothing good will come from this
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

Yeah I posted it a while back when they told us. Info from O2 is I think that contracts, prices etc. are all being honoured, discounts and all. But will wait to see how long that applies for.

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

Well apparently BE customers got a letter about this in march when it was announced, I for one didn't and I missed the news so this is new to me.

I might go for sky if I can keep the BT phone line, but plusnet is looking good atm, don't really care about super fast, my current 12mb (I think, might be 14mb) is plenty fast for me.

Yep, after months of waiting (my exchange was enabled for FTTC just after Christmas but for some reason the cab wasn't) I bit the bullet and emailed Openreach. BT aren't putting fibre in my area, so my Virgin install happens tomorrow.

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

PlusNet were(still are) trialling carrier grade NAT (and have no public plans for IPv6) around the same time sky bought BE* so I decided to move to Aquiss.

    Pretty good so far.

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

In the same boat and currently out of contract on O2 with static IP. Spoke to bt who can do 16 a month unlimited for 12 months with the sports channel (already have BT line rental saver and unlimited calls) which didn't seem too bad. Sky make you take their phone line (which works out a 19.50 a month for equivalent BT package) then 7.50 for unlimited broadband. Bit stuck on what to do as I'm paying 11 for O2 with static IP

No me either yet but I thought as a sky customer I'd try and save a few quid but in order to do so I'd need to take a sky phone line. Think it's going to be BT with the free sports channel on offer

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

Sky decided to "upgrade" our BE line from 15MB to 20MB to 3MB to 4MB, so that makes it 2/2 for me for Sky not being able to breech the 4MB limit in a place where I live. We are only 600M from the exchange too.

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

That's a shame as BE had a good reputation. Your other option is for, dare I say it, VirginMedia. I just have their broadband service and pay £30 /month for the 100/10Mb (soon to be (120/12Mb) service. Notwithstanding the traffic management, it works out very good for me as the speeds now are always good; something I couldn't always say at the beginning of the year.

Re: BE and O2 bought buy sky, what next?

I use to have BE and o2 internet while at University in Brighton depending on what house I lived in, the customer service was amazing, if not one of the best I've ever used. Use to have an o2 contact mobile and all calls her free no matter the time on hold, but they would always tell me to hang up and they'd call back if it was an extended period which was really nice touch.
