Now that o2 are out of the question, what's the best general broadband supplier?

You know, like a good equivalent.

o2 never throttled my line or had download limits etc, but not sure about going to Sky, I don't hear great things.

Actually I hear great things about Sky. Do some more research and check them out.

If not, I'm on BT Infinity myself and I can't recommend it enough. It's amazing.

Infinity is awesome, but for ADSL, Sky ain't too bad. My parents have been moved from O2 to Sky and it's pretty much the same.

They constantly win awards for their service I can't rate them highly enough

Oh for those with sky if you want to move to another IP you with find it costing you money as sky and TalkTalk both buy the line and it is unbundled at the exchange which means any other IP will have to pay to reverse the process

Never had a problem with BT personally.

I'm on the unlimited bb package for £13.50 a month currently. (plus line rental).

part of my job involves installing hotspots in various retailers, plusnet is the preferred choice.

I get a true 1.5MByte - 2MB download (this just inspired me to do a new thread in GD), this speed is fine/plenty for me and it never has traffic management which is the most important part.

I'd rather have a 2MegaByte line thats always true than something 10x quicker but managed.

+1 for Plusnet - The unlimited packages [fibre + ADSL] both offer full speed with no [external] traffic management. The only limitation therefore is your line speed - should you max your connection the traffic is managed to make browsing / streaming etc more responsive.

A bit out of left-field, have you considered Post Office broadband?

I'm stuck on rural broadband speeds sadly, but they came in substantially cheaper than most of the competition, appear to be fully unlimited and if you know what you're on about it's not to hard to get through to the proper technical call centre who I have found to be quite helpful and knowledgeable.

To be fair I have the Post office landline already at the moment, with o2 ADSL. Haven't actually looked at their prices, it's just that nobody has recommended them.

So I might try that for a home run :-p
