    What 16/24 port switch?

    Hi All,
I'm looking at replacing a bunch of my home infrastructure, and centralising it. I've currently got a load of stuff hanging off switches throughout the house, and I want to replace them with a single 'big' switch.

    Must haves:

No blocking, ie the back plane can support 16/24 gig throughput.
    Must be quiet

    Nice to have:

    Link aggregation
    VLANs
    QoS

Recommendations? Don't really have a budget in mind.

If you find a decent quiet 16/24 Gig switch with LACP I'd be interested too: I've a couple of GS108Ts serving my homelab, with standard GS108s serving the standard content - stepping up past 8 ports seems to mean noise or a drop in features.

The Cisco SG300 series seems highly regarded, but I think they're only passive up to 10 ports (8+2 SFP)

HP procurve range are supposed to be pretty quiet - I've got a Linksys Cisco switch which does I believe all the bits you mention (SRW2024 outc) but was very noisy out of the box - I've replaced the fans and it is better but not by any means quiet.

    Have look at this

    http://www.netgear.com/service-provi...GS116.aspx#two

I think it is fanless, certainly advertised as silent.

    Just under £100 from Amazon

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-16-P...switch+16+port

There is a managed version too and the pro-safe version, slightly higher specs.
