VNC through a switch attached to a router.

I hope someone knows what im taking about here

I have a router that is working fine for VNC and i can access all 4 of my PC's remotely by port forwarding certain ports on each device ( with infinite dhcp lease).

I have ran out of ethernet ports an need to add more, if i add a 4 port switch will the router still see each DHCP device or does the switch become a dhcp device and each PC attached to the switch becomes indistinguishable ?

if you buy a dumb switch (ie anything that costs less than a couple of hundred quid) you can safely assume that it's not doing DHCP. Or you can disable DHCP.

Essentially:yes, but buy an 8 port switch. Always plan for future requirements.

the dhcp server gives you an ip address based on your mac address, that not going to change when you add the new switch and as Splash says its more likely to work than it isnt

you could use an old router as a switch in that case you would want to be disabling the dhcp feature on the device and just use the on your main router.
