XPenology (Synology OS) vs Linux Mint

I've been taking a keen interest in the XPenology project over the past month, especially as it's possible to install it to an HP Microserver. I currently run Linux Mint on my Microserver which is running just great. Has anyone any experience of the Synology OS? It looks rather good and seems to be very lightweight too. The only thing bothering me about installing it is the fact that I'll lose my current Linux RAID 5 setup which is a bit of a bummer.

In the best tradition of Hexus, I went ahead anyway. Luckily I was able to fit all my files onto an external drive (which went belly up later on, losing all the files!) and installed Expenology on to a USB drive, plugged it into my Microserver and there we were. Simple as... My RAID array was lost as I expected and reconfigured to Synology RAID 5. The Synology OS is lightweight, easily accessible through the web browser with lots of apps to help you get the most out of it. I also seem to be getting faster network transfers but this may be my imagination...

To sum up, the Expenology is well worth a look at if you're after an advanced yet easy to use NAS OS.

Quite a few views for this thread! Here's the link to the instructions I followed on Overclockers It's really very straight forward. I've had the Microserver on for a couple of days straight now accessing it for photo viewing and Plex streaming. No problems so far and long may it continue.
