Question Questions to ask an outsourced IT support company

    Hi all,

I've been tasked with meeting a few IT support companies for my Legal Firm - I am sure most people on this site are used to being the friend/family member who "knows about computers" and always gets called, well unfortunately that's me at work too...

Unfortunately while I'm confident to build my own PC, troubleshoot desktop issues and done a bit of simple coding over the years, I have little to no knowledge of Network admin. There's about 30-35 of us mostly using XP or Win 7 machines, running off 3 Win Server 2008 R2 servers across 2 offices (joined by a secure WAN with 2 cisco boxes), an exchange server, a legal case managment system (running off SQL) and a few other bits and pieces.

Until recently we had a single in-house IT guy, but are now looking at out-sourcing and are meeting a couple of firms. I'm ok on the obvious questions to ask about price, service levels etc... but am wondering what more technical questions I should be asking of them. I know what I would ask another lawyer, but am not that clued up on the IT profession!

So - what questions should I ask?

    thanks for any help

Get customer references - preferably unsolicited (note legal pun )

There are a couple of events where Legal IT people get together , its possibly worth asking people for some recommendations there. Legal firms tend to have pretty exacting requirements , so choose carefully to ensure you dont end up with a cowboy
