    Question Wi-fi range

Presently living in one of these silly townhouses, I like to do some of my work from the lounge. My dsktop is on the top floor along with the WAG54G ADSL unit.

Speed is non existent on the ground floor and the signall drops compleyely in seconds of taking the laptop downstairs. Laptop is wireless with a Linksys Wi-fi card.

Linksys say I should get 2 WAP54G access points set to 'repeater mode to extend range but I feel this is overkill! Is it not possible to use only one access pint to do just boost the signal a little?

Can anyone advise the easiest way to extend or boost the signal?

I do not ant to spend bucket loads as I feel it is no warranted .

Looking for any sensible advice please.

    Davey

You could try the DIY Reflector route.. or if you're lazy, the here's one I made earlier: http://www.tritium.co.uk/

The radio waves radiate outwards in a big circle, you can use the reflector to bounce the wifi waves away from places it's not needed (eg, the router sat next to a wall, or pointing upwards to the ceiling etc) extending the signal strength and range in the places where you do want it

Made a quick reflector out of card and foil but the problem still persists downstairs.

Anymore ideas out there as to whether I need 2 access points to gain a signal downstairs?

Turn the speed down this will increase signal power.
