Odd networking problem
Hi all,
Need help here. I've been using the netgear RP614 router with blueyonder for about 9 months and had no problems with it. Recently I moved out into a new house and did the networking setup as usual. there are 3 pcs, 2 desktop and 1 ibook. my pc and the ibook have no problems connecting the internet via the router. but as soon as i plug in the 2nd desktop, the the other 2 pcs can't connect to the internet. i've verified that the 3rd desktop is the culprit as i've plug in and out the cable from the router several times. both desktops are using winxp.
Is there any settings that i should check to solve the problem?

sounds like an IP conflict to me. are all the machines on DHCP or fixed IP?

IPs are assigned automatically. for your info the problematic PC used to be a Server before we start using Cable with router.

it might have been set with a static IP ( servers usually are )

When you say server do you mean that it used to share an internet connection to your other PC's? (using something like Internet connection sharing)
If so then it may be that Internet Connection Sharing is still enabled on that PC. This would mean that the 3rd Desktop is trying to allocate IP's to PC's at the same time the router is. It may also mean that it has the same IP as the router, so when your other PC's are trying to use the router as the default gateway they are either seeing nothing (because of the IP conflict) or are trying to use the old server.
The easiest way to solve this I would say would be to set the 3rd desktop to DHCP( if it isn't already) and make sure you have internet connection sharing disabled on that PC. This settings should be in the properties for the network card.
Hope that helps.

cheers for that..
the pc was using ICS. i have checked that ICS is not present. i've set the pc to assign ip automatically, same settings as my pc.

i dont know if this applys here, but i THINK there can be problems with conflicting ports, im about 50% on this but im sure theres something u need to watch out for when using all the ports as 1 of the normal ports can conflict with the upload port, or something. my old router had this problem. not sure exactly what im going on about but someone might know after reading my babble :)
