    D-link G604T

    Hi,

I have followed the straightforward set-up and am unable to connect to my ISP. I can talk to the router by using a web-browser and although the ADSL light is on the status light is constantly flashing. I thought it might be an ISP related problem and have gone back to my trusted router which still works perfectly.

the flashing ADSL light means the router isnt properly connected to the line, whether this is at your end or your ISPs, iunno *shrugs*

It shouldnt have anything to do with the settings in the router itself. Are you using a different cable to that which your original router uses? Is the connection socket muffed?

Have you checked the VPI and VCI settings on the modem as they need to be 0 and 38 in order for it to work on ADSL

If your other routers fine then it sounds like a little issue with the configuration of the wireless dlink router. I would just double check the settings as this is usually the stumbing block and has caught me out once

If possible can you post a log of the router activity i.e from the log so we can see what is happening.

    Firmware

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I have had a reply from D-link to say it needs a firmware update. The problem is they sent me instructions on 2 links. One to update and one to install. The install link doesn't work. When I visisted their site it says all PDF file transfer is down at the moment! Does anyone know the procedure to install the new firmware - it doesn't list it on the CD Rom manual.

    All sorted

It turned out that my router did have the latest firmware availible but the "keep alive" setting was incorrect.
    It now pops along!

    glad to hear it.
Believe it or not the blinking status light actually means the router booted up ok, not that there is a fault. Now if the ADSL status light blinks then u have connectivity problems
