    Cheap Microfilters: Any good?

Will one day in the new year be turning ADSL from Cable.

Are cheapo Ebuyer-style Microfilters OK, or should I get named brands?

And while you dudes are hear....I have a very sexxex Netgear Router for my Cable NTL Broadbean Phatpipe....

Is it compatible? with ADSL? Or shall I just get a new ADSL Firewall/Router?

and while you're STILL here why are Cisco things SO MUCH MORE DOUGH? and are they higher quality, in the way a good PSU is better than a potential firehazrd-cack PSU?

    And while you're here.....

    thanks

Cheapo ebuyer filters are a gamble, spend a bit more on decent ones and save yourself the trouble.

You will need a router with a built in ADSL modem. You could use an ethernt ADSL modem, but these cost as much as everything in one box, and don't work as well.

Cisco stuff costs a lot more because they don't suffer from the problems that some "consumer" routers do. For example, your current router might randomly reboot once a month or something, a Cisco won't do this. Also they can do advanced QoS, so someone can be downloading and another person gaming and the pings will be as though they were the only person using the connection.

Basically for what you want, a Cisco is overkill. If you just want a really good ADSL router (wired) then look at the Speedtouch 510 v4. If you want wireless look at either the wireless Speedtouch routers (expensive) or a Netgear DG834G.

Cheap and cheerful filters are fine.
Your ADSL modem has a filter built in, and so can be plugged directly into the line, quality of filter has no effect. Filters are only used for voice conversations, and how good is the sound quality anyway? and how good does it need to be?

    I use ebuyer ones

a netgear DSL router will sort you out , or you can sometime use an ethernet modem to connect to the wan port of your netgear router.

with my BT adsl, i use the wallmounted filters, which are very good tbh, i might have some speedtouch ones lying round if you want em, but i never used them so i cant guarentee how good they are.
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.
    i know :/
