    Question Port forwarding & ICS?

    Hi there,

Got a mate running an XP Pro machine with ICS.
He wants to run a Counter-Strike: Source server, that people can connect to from the net.

Now this would take me second to fix if he had a router but, rather unfortunately, he doesn't.

Basically, he has 2 XP Pro machines connected via ICS.
The IP that he wants to forward to is 192.168.0.130
I'm guessing the only port he would need to forward would be 27015 (as that's the port his server is running on).

Is there a way to set this up, either by in Windows itself or by a small tool that can be installed?

    Cheers folks!
Thought I'd ask this at Hexus, as everyone seams good with this stuff here

No idea what ports CounterStrike requires, or if this 27015 is the only one you need to forward, but here is the MS article describing port forwarding in ICS:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;309524

The example is PPTP, but you can just change the numbers.

I only tried ICS with Windows 98 years ago, and had mixed success with online games - some worked flawlessly, some occasionally, and others never.
No clue if it's a lot better in XP.

The Windows firewall (with ICS) will let you do this.

WHen you go to the settings of the connection, on the Advanced tab, click Settings and you'll be given a list of services. Add a new one, set the TCP port to the port of the game, and in the ip address box, put the address of the computer hosting the game. SHould then work

You need to forward more than just port 27015. There is a whole range of ports that need to be forwarded if I remember correctly. If you go to the www.counter-strike.net forums then you can find out everything you need to know about setting up a counter-strike server.
