    Suitable routers for FTTC broadband

Moving house soon and now in a position to get some FTTC broadband.

What is the router du jour for such connections?

Not really even set myself a budget for such things, and might even stretch to some Cisco product if there is one that's appropriate (or cheap off eBay).

Re: Suitable routers for FTTC broadband

Pretty much any non-ADSL router with an ethernet WAN port will work with FttC via the BT OpenReach VDSL modem. The same kind of configuration cable internet users have been traditionally accustomed with. ISPs usually offer an integrated router when you sign up which might do just as well instead of having two separate devices.

I went with a Draytek V2860n+, but my sync speed dropped about 7/8 Mbits. I returned it and decided to stay with the Openreach standard vDSL modem, and the Draytek v2820Vn I have already configured as aidanjt says above.

I've got a Asus RT-16n with tomotaUSB firmware install. Does everything i need and haven't had a single issue with it. Uptime's going into the 100's of days. Only time it gets rebooted is when there is a powercut.

Ac66u on vm here, solid gigabit ish wifi on 5ghz is completely gratuitous but quite satisfying.

    Technicolor TG589vn v3.
Ditch the BT openreach box and go wires only. (Just keep the BT OR box in case you later need support).

Getting ~75Mbps on wired/wireless (5Ghz) on an ASUS RT-N66U via BT FTTC. Router is feature rich and you can mod firmware if you want.

Black box with blue LEDs, looks cool too!

If you have an old PC you could try installing something like PFsense onto it ?

Re: Suitable routers for FTTC broadband

Another vote for the hot & toasty Asus RT-AC66u, there is a newer model now which apparently doesn't get as hot if that is a concern for you.
