Fibre Availability Question

Hi guys,

Looking a little help if possible. I currently have BT Infinity 2 and its great. Very happy with it.

However myself and my fiancee are looking to buy in a town near here where there is a very large housing estate being built near a brand new hospital. These houses started being built about 2 years ago. Since then a new primary school has been built and more houses are scheduled. The towns exchange (Larbert) is FTTC ready and 'Accepting orders'. However no houses in the new housing estate can get it at all. Speeds are being estimated for me at 6mb which is obviously dire compared to my current 80mb. Virgin is also not available.

My questions is:

How can I check if the new estates in this area are due to get it anytime soon? Who would I contact?

Maybe I am a sad geek. but if I found out that despite it being an entirely new area, it was not going to get fiber anytime soon. It would put me off buying a house there. Simple. So I just want to check. If it was in the pipeline and was just awaiting council planning approval etc then I would be happy enough to proceed.

Any advice is appreciated. Surely there is somewhere you can contact to find out?

My guess would be that if it is a very large housing estate, ie, high population density, then it would be s candidate for fttc. It may be that the basic infrastructure (ducting etc) is being put in place along with the standard cables, but the equipment cabinets and contents won't be installed until all the house building work is complete.

As to who you can ask, hard to say - local MP might be able to get an answer from BT.

You could try openreach checker? but dunno how much use it will be.

I was hoping that there was a contact for BT Openreach who would know if they had plans in place or would have. They should have a system in place which allows this process to happen. Especially now that internet is so important to households.

This has been no real help. It just tells me the exchange is live and accepting orders. Nothing about areas not having it and if they will in the future or not.

Have you tired the checker here

that checker shows which cabinet that area has and if the cabinet is enabled.

I dropped nga.enquiries@openreach.co.uk a line with my cabinet and exchange details as I was in a similar situation (though not new build our exchange had been enabled for a few months with no movement. It turned out that as Virgin cable was present they'd made a commercial decision not to enable my cabinet. It took a week or 2 for them to come back to me, but it gave me a definitive answer (hence now on Virgin 120Mb)

aw, that sucks. Sorry dude! (was worth trying though, but I had a sneaking suspicion that once the address became public knowledge it would be killed off at some point)
