    wireless networking 2 pc's please help !!!

    ok i want to link 2 pc's together purely for gaming ,one is upstairs one is down , i have bought 2 linksys wmp54g wireless cards and installed them also run the network connection wizard on both pc's and configured the file sharing bits , both pc's are on xp sp1 ,they cant see each other and i cant swap any files or information ,i bought a router (usb ) also as part of this package but running an adhoc network such as this i dont think i need ? is this correct ? can anyone please help or point in the direction of a decent tutorial /guide ,as im pulling my f*****g hair out !!!!have tried to follow the windows troubleshooter etc but getting nowhere ,appreciate any help or replys supplied , thx

    I think cable is really the only way for gaming :hs: Its also much easier to set up

    But as you already have the router, try Linksys tech support number, everytime i call they do a good job of helping out and really know what they are doing.

    I dont have trouble with wireless gaming i get a ping normally of 1 ms and sometimes 2 ms to the router never had issues with lag on the games ive played.

    what 'area' and channel are the network cards set to?
    are you using WEP? - try disabling all WEP and any other security things (except maybe allowing access for the other PC's MAC address. (can you do that in Ad Hoc mode??)

    i found problems using channel 11, switched to 8 and the network started to connect (something about WEP not liking channel 11 for some reason)
    See if that helps.
    Also SP2 is much better at handling wireless networks than SP1
