    Speedtouch 510

Sorry to post again guys but:

I have got the Alcatel Speedtouch 510 (with built in 4 port switch)

One end is connected to my microfilter, the other is connected to the "RED" interface on my smoothwall machine. My "GREEN" interface is a patch cable going out to a switch which goes off to the rest of my network.

When I put my 510 on the "RED" interface, which would mean it's the modem, which it is, I can't get through to it (e.g. I can't ping it, connect to it for diagnostics etc) and I've found a screen that asks me to set the connection type for the "RED" interface. Static, DHCP or PPPoE. I have no idea which one it should be?

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers in advance

The 510 is a dhcp/dns server so you will have to tell the sw box to use dhcp from the 510 router

btw default ip of the router is 10.0.0.138

also the fw of the router is on by default you can turn this off

btw have you tried putting a normal windoes box on the connection to set it up ?

Under the Web based GUI I set DHCP to:

    Primary DNS: 10.0.0.138
    Start Address: 10.0.0.1
    End Address: 10.0.0.100

I did connect it straight to a windows box to set it up but I left it at "PPPoA with Default Settings" so I guess I gotta go back and change that.

Changed it to "PPPoA with Custom Settings" disabled firewall and set the DHCP Start and End to the same as on the SW box.

Hopefully should all work (even though BT haven't enabled us yet, 49 minutes left to their deadline)

Using the CD-Rom, I can't get on to the diagnostics for the router (which is the Web GUI) when it's on the other side of the smoothie, would this be right (it connects through "http://speedtouch.lan" to get to the Speedtouch Web GUI)

router dhcp 10.0.0.0 and upwards range

sw box dhcp 10.0.0.0 and upwards.....see the problem there ?

you are confusing things by having the sw box there tbh it is not needed cos the 510 qill do the job of the sw box quiet happy

    depends

on the setup of the smoothy

For interest both my adsl modem speedtouch 530 & my router are set to serve up dchp addies only the router last in the chain serves them up for the PC's and both Adsl modem and routers are firewall enabled.
