    Need a home wifi solution

We have BT infinity (65/15) and the WIFI is dire on everything even if you are in the same room as the hub (HH3), We have 3 ipads plus a PS3/XBOX and multiple phones in the house

The house is only a few years old so it's all timber framed on the inside so nothing that should block it

I'm looking for a solution that will give a decent signal all over the house

    Any suggestions would be great
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel on the HH3?

looking at the BT FAQ, the HH3 is supposed to adjust the wireless channel automatically if it detects nearby networks to be on the same/adjacent channels.

You can trigger a channel refresh manually by following the instructions here.
You should also be able to set a channel manually, as opposed to leaving it on automatic.

How about asking BT to replace the old model with a newer HH4/HH5, which also has a 5GHz radio.

All previous suggestions are good or can try a WiFi Signal repeater/extender.

Re: Need a home wifi solution

I'm building my rig and have included an Asus PCE-AC68, which is a PCI-E card with three ariels running the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards and running up to 1300Mbps. I chose it due to lots of positive reviews about performance. As I live in a Georgian brick house I need the extra to feed the needs of the various household devices.

I'll post about it when its up and running but before then, have you looked for what might be interfering with your signal - things like microwave ovens, wireless telephone systems or even out of sight but line of sight blocking things like copper water pipes and tanks? Also, as your house is modern timber frame, do you know whether there is any plaster mesh or metalised sheet insulation in its construction?

I've that card, with the matching router it does solid 900mbps in the opposite corner of the house. Just make sure you only have ac capable devices on the 5ghz band.

You mean the AC68U router? What would be the difference with a AC66U?

Planning to get the AC66U and couple of Intel 7260 for our laptops. The current VM box sucks (version 1,signal drops all the time, top speed is around 80Mbps combined aka 1 x device can reach it, but 2 x will have only 5MBps copy from the NAS).

Yes, tbh unless you're using asus clients (or another device that supports broadcom turboqam) then no difference at all.

So 2x2 MIMI will operate at 866.7Mbps instead of 900Mbps with a turboqam enabled client, right?

I've been using Linksys products for years. We have a BT Infinity connection and had a HomeHub 3 which I have replaced with a second hand Cisco E4200 flashed with DD-WRT. Has been great and is regularly used with 2 laptops, 2 phones and an iPad.

Really rate their products and they have just released the WRT1900AC which looks like the old WRT54G but with much better wireless speeds. Reviews on SmallNetBuilder.

    P.S I wouldn't bother with a repeater
