    EE Signal Booster

Not sure if this is the right place to post this?

Anyway I recently installed an EE signal booster box. All is working fine which is great however the light flashes on the box when it's in use and I often find it randomly flashing even when I'm not using my phone.
Then it dawned on me any Tom, Dick and Harry are now able to use my signal booster to use for their calls, further more if would appear as though this eats directly from my own broadband usage and can impact my download speeds.

Does anyone else have one of these boxes and know of a way to limit what devices can connect to it?

Otherwise is the boost in phone signal really worth the drawback of letting everyone else piggy back on my Internet for free?

Here's hoping someone can help as Google searching brings back nothing! It's almost like these boxes don't exist.

I thought they used your Wifi directly from the phone, so unless the phone is on your Wifi they can't use the box?

I'm not sure as I don't have an overly great understanding of how they work. Hopefully that is the case and will check when I finish work

You may need to log into it to set up an encryption and password regime. The manual should give details, or failing that EE's website or customer services.

    Re: EE Signal Booster

"Once activated, your number will automatically work. Just make calls and send texts as normal. Other Orange, T-Mobile and EE users will also be able to use the signal too if they are in range.

Whenever you're on a call connected through your box, the green light will flash slowly and you'll hear a beep at the start of the call.

Up to four people can connect to your Signal Box at any one time. However, if you have a slower broadband connection this could be limited to one or two people connecting at the same time."

Given the above I would defo say that others are able to use it, as suggested check the manual to see if you can secure it in any way to stop them.

    Re: EE Signal Booster

    http://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-and-home...age/signal-box
The Signal Box plugs into your broadband router and creates a link to our network to provide indoor coverage.
It works by providing 3G coverage with a range of about 15 metres, so anyone with access can make a call just as normal. Any customers on Orange, T-Mobile or EE can use the same box.

The reason you can't find much is the boxes are no longer available according to the link.
That said they're introducing a new wifi calling service, might be worth keeping an eye on: http://ee.co.uk/ee-and-me/network/wifi-calling

i have a Vodafone Suresignal box and that only works for numbers that are registered on the box. Maybe the EE box works similar.

    Re: EE Signal Booster

I've just had to deal with an issue with one of these at work, I can confirm that they are still available at least for corporate customers.
Just to clarify the way these work, you pulg it into your router via a network cable, call EE to get it activated, it then uses your broadband to set up a small localised 4g hotspot.
And yes as mentioned any Orange, T-Mobile or EE phone can use it it just looks like a normal 4g station to the phone.
So don't use one of these if you're on a limited or metered braodband connection, these days wifi calling is probably a better option.

    Re: EE Signal Booster

Vodafone allow you to limit/administer the numbers that can use the signal booster yourself where EE do not allow then.

When I enquired about limiting the access to certain mobile numbers I was told by there customer service that you have to instruct them on who can access it. I never went down this route as I didnt have the EE service long enough to bother.

You are correct though, you are currently helping your neighbours with a boost in signal.

I'm pretty sure it's 3G only Pob255, but thanks for the post. I have one of these EE Booster boxen. It didn't really help my call quality. Hey it was free though, I've since unplugged it. I think Switching from a Sony Xperia to a large-celled Oukitel K6000 (something) fixed it.

My phone is in a shop getting it's screen repaired. I'm gonna collect it in about a half hour. My Xaomi Redmi seems fine on it's 4G network from EE at the exact same location my Xperia (Z3 I think?!) had bad problems.

    Complicated life now isn't it?
