    Setting default wireless settings.

Where i work, i have put in 16 wireless access points around the building. I have configured them to use WPA and Radius server for authentication, which is working. But to get it to work, i have to alter the settings for each access point as it is found. ie, change the Authentication type, turn off validate server certificate, and enable fast connect. Now for me this is not a problem, but for the other 35 people with laptops this will be a nightmare.

Is there anyway to make Windows XP have this as "default" when it finds a new point?????

    Using Active Directory?

If so you can set the wireless network settings via group policy:

Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies

Create a policy in here, I would recommend setting "Network to access" to "Access point (infrastructure) networks only" on the General tab.

Then on the Preferred Networks tab, click Add, then bang in your preferred SSID, authentication type and data encryption type.

Get your clients to authenticate and get GPO through a wired connection once and you're set.

If you're not using AD then I don't think there is a way to automate settings of the wireless client.

Did it using active directory. Laptops picked the settings up, but when you double click on a point to connect it does absolutly nothing. Sits there dead, attempts to do nothing. Will not connect to anything. Remove the policy, works OK.
