Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
I keep getting this problem.

Ive changed the network drive letter to ensure its not conflicting with anything, changed turned off power management for all the relevant network adapters and ensured neither computer is going into idle. Any idea? Its incredibly annoying and weird that what appears to be some sort of fundamental conflict happens intermittedly?
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
Your linked image appears to be a linked directory, so we can't see it :)

*EDIT 2* can you run
net use
from a command prompt and post the results?

edit: Damn you splash!
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
Any other networking issues, packet drops etc?
Just wondering if it could be a faulty switch or network cable?
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
I dont think there are any hardware issues.
How do I test for packet drop?
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
run
ping mothership -t
for 30 mins or so. Also post the output from
net use
both of the above need to be run from a command prompt.

THanks. I did the ping test and it carried on forever and I didnt know how to stop it, and then as it has been going on for so long I couldnt seem to scroll up and see all the results?
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
Although what I can say is that the ping is always 1,2 or 3, but just a minute ago there was a 20...
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
ok, now do
net use /delete p:
net use /delete \\mothership\media
and try connecting again
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
Thanks for all your help splash. I deleted both and now it wont connect. I also typed just net use after this and nothing
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
ok: how are you trying to connect? UNC or using a mapped drive? What error do you get when you try to connect?

we may be talking cross purposes as Im not trying to connect at all now, those comands above have deleted the mapped drive entirely. I was therefore connecting it as a mapped drive (which oddly whenever I booted would say "cannot connect" in the taskbar area but as soon as you clicked on the drive it ws ok).
Is UNC better? Perhaps its good its now totally gone as I could follow some formal instructions to get it set up properly?
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
It doesn't matter which you use, but the fact is that you had it mapped as P: and the error that you posted originally show it trying to connect as Z:
If you just remap it now it should be fine, but only map it using one letter.

Thanks Splash. What is the "cleanest" way to map as I obviously confused something when I last set it up
Re: Network (Shared Drive) Dropouts
There's no real reason not to just use a persistent mapped drive, but something clearly went wrong at some point :)
try setting that up and post back if you have further issues.
