    LLU - The future

Looks like LLU is going to take off big time next year (2005) as the costs of actually setting up exchanges and LLU lines has been cut the regulratory and BT by up to 70%.

Hmm, seems LLU is gonna take is forward, either by making it cheaper to have quick lines or forcing BT to up the speeds.

Several LLU providers (Bulldog and Easynet i think) are trying to push for the ADSL2+ standard to be pushed through ofcom and the like. This would provide 15mb+ speeds, although still fairly close to the exchange. What it would provide though is much faster speeds to people, like me, who are stuck with a maximum speed of 1mb with no hope of any faster on current adsl with speeds of at least 2mb maybe 4mb. Bizzarely though the reach isnt vastly improved over current standards maybe an extra 500m or so. This is all before BT's supposed 21C network that they are going to implement at some point. Its looking all good at the moment for broadband in the UK 2005 could well be the year that we see huge speed increases for alot of people and lower prices too if the competition hots up.
