Gigabit switch to gigabit switch but only 100Mbps connection?

I have a Netgear unmanaged 8-port gigabit switch (GS108) and a Netgear smart switch 8-port gigabit switch (GS108T).

The problem I have is that the connection between the two switches is only ever 100Mbps?

Any ideas why this is? Both my server and PC connect into the unmanaged switch at 1Gbps, and the Asus router I have connects into the managed switch (along with 7 100Mbps devices) at 1Gbps.

Why would the connection between the two not be 1Gbps? It's only about 15m between the two?

Check the managed switch for enforced speed limits on ports

No such option, just shows it connected at 100Mbps Full Duplex, it's a smart switch rather than fully managed.

Which version of the GS108T do you have? I have a GS108 and a GS108Tv2 and I definitely can force link speeds (switching>ports>port configuration>select port>port speed.) That said: I cannot force gigabit speed links, they only work at auto (at which point I get 1Gbps link speeds)

Amazing that it's the simplest of solutions. I thought I'd checked the cable, however I decided to cut the ends of the cable I made and recrimp with new connectors....and what do you know...gigabit... sigh

The Ethernet spec requires very specific wiring.....if you just connect pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2 etc, the cable will work but only at reduced speeds. The way that each line twists around the others is what stops interference and thus allows speed and distance.

15m will defiantly show up any problems as well. The odd 1m fly-cable can sometimes get away with bad wiring.

It was just the connections, probably not quite crimped in properly, cable was fine.
