Help with upload speeds - Asus DSL-N66U

    Hi all,

I was hoping you lovely people could shed some light on my poor upload speeds with this router.

Bt Openreach have been out and tested the line and, without the router connected the line syncs at 20Mbps upload. With the router connected only 2.6Mbps.

The firmware is on the latest version (1.0.9.7) and it is strange have seen it go as high as 18Mbps briefly after one of the many engineer visits to fix other issues recently.

After a quick google search I enabled QoS and set the upload to 20 and the download to 70 but still hasn't made any difference.

I've taken this from the DSL log if it helps:

    DSL Driver Version FwVer:5.4.11.31_A_TC3095 HwVer:T14.F7_0.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea at this point :/

Re: Help with upload speeds - Asus DSL-N66U

You must be able to see the exchange from your window with such a low Attenuation! You should be connecting at 20Mb upload with those figures. You really need to test it with another router to see if it is the N66U that is the issue. (Also your connection down is lower than it should be as well as it should be nearer 80Mb)

Re: Help with upload speeds - Asus DSL-N66U

Yeah the exchange is really close to us, plus Openreach have replaced pretty much all the cabling between our flat and the cabinet recently. I am thinking it is the router that's limiting the upload but just cannot figure out why or how to fix it. I'm going to get them to send me their own router to test it but I bought the Asus specifically due to the unreliability of their own units.

I'm using powerline adapters so would expect to see some drop in speeds but not to this level. To be honest I'm happy enough at 50 to 55 Mbps since there's only two of us living here but the upload speed is bugging me.

As much as I loathe Virgin Media as a company I wish they were available in this area as their broadband is so much more reliable in my experience.

Do you have a test socket? If so then use that and disconnect everything else including phone if you have one and just go from Test Socket->RJ11 Cable -> Router.

Re: Help with upload speeds - Asus DSL-N66U

Yeah I do, the engineer already did that. I've been searching around and I've seen several posts regarding similar Asus models which had the same issue. Every one I read seems to have sorted it using the QoS settings - all except me lol
I'm gonna get a router from plusnet to try it out for comparison's sake.
