    Central Point Broad Band problems

As some of you know i've been having problems with my CPBB 1mb/s connection since i got it. I thought i'd start a post about it, so if anyone has anything that might help i'm all ears.
Here's the complaints i have made so far:

Being an avid online gammer i need low pings in games but the average i get off UK based servers (i.e 195.224.41.13:27015 Wireplay UK DoD) is 210+!!! for a 1mb/b line. Online speed tests show the correct connection speed but as you know these are unreliable and are not an accurate measure. I have discovered that the local exchange is also only 300 metres away!

Please can you now investigate the problem as i am seriously thinking of cancelling my account if this serious problem in not rectified soon.

Could you also provide for us a traceroute when the results are particularly bad. This is done by entering tracert www.bbc.net.uk into the DOS prompt. Please then copy the data by highlighting the text and pressing the key combination (Ctrl + c) and pasting the results into this ticket.

try runnign a tracerout to the server you are playing on.

I had similar problems when I played BF1942 on a velocitygamers server.

someone between pipex and me was using cheap routing via the states.

get the ip of a CS server you pla on and I@ll post a comparative traceroute for you.

either that or you can dump your ISP and go for Zen

I have done a trace to the server too but it seem ok now, although it is 2.37am GMT. My thoughts are that the ISP can't handle busy times of the day

Eru, you understand that you have a datastream account?. I'll explain the difference in more detail if you want, but in effect you use CP's network (well telefonica or tiscali's network)

CP doesn't appear to pay for guarenteed bandwidth for its customers through these companies network infrastructure therefore the speeds you get at peak periods are utter crap.

Luke313 on here has had the same issue. They are crap as a company and i'd suggest you go elsewhere as imo you won't get anything better...

Ah right i didnt know but did suspect it as tiscali came up on my connection checks and CPBB wasn't on the ISP lists as times.
If you could explain more that would be grand.

Ahh so CPBB is the vISP for the local (open) wifi point... cheers for the traceroutes

Suprisingly, even during peak time in newcastle, it was able to deliver 210KB/s :O

If you've had it since Dec 2003 as you have said then you can cancel your contract there and then - for me however, I have to wait another month for the 3 month period to end

I am currently in a fairly large email debate with them, in which I have done several speedtests, traceroutes and pings of different ip's to them - I have a gut feeling that it is just stalling me until, until something else

Speeds are okish of a daytime - I still ping 70+, but once it gets into peak times I can expect to ping no lower than 200 - bah
