Hosting a domain name at home

    Hi

I am currently using dyndns to allow me to access my home pc, I know you can use http://www.noip.com/ as well but the dyndns works out of the box with my sky router.

I just upgraded to Sky FTCC pro which give you a static IP address as standard so I got to thinking whats needed to host a co.uk domain name at home?

I have a spare domain name I'm not using, Ideally all I am looking for is an a-record name to ip resolution, I dont want to host any websites.

Just to allow me access to my ssl vpn, I have a debian hyper-v thats on 24/7

yes i could just save the ip address but thats too easy

    Any info would be good

    Thanks

It sounds like you need to create an A record to point to your new static IP address for the desired url. So for example using vpn as the referance point pointing to the IP so you would create an A record with the data referance as vpn to the static IP address you own within the advanced DNS management of your spare domain so you can then use vpn.domin.com to referance your IP address and then any services on your IP address which is open to the internet like VPN ports can be used by the DNS name.
