Wireless can be tricky at times, have you got SP2? Also I take it you mean wireless router upstairs?

Inititally I was really sceptical but one day my install got screwed and I thought what the hell. Made myself a slipstreamed SP2 disc by downloading the network install version of SP2 and running the combine command then buring to disc and was all fine. Only annoyance I had was that SP2 restricts the amount of open connections to 10 (makes file sharing ny on impossible), however there is a small utility that modify's the tcp.sys file with any amount of connections you want (I have 65536) and it's really good and after setting up a wireless network indoors last weekend it's loads easier than previously with SP1 or W2K.

Well its a start at least First off unplug yourself from the adsl and then disable any firewalls you have running, Windows firewall and any others. Next reboot all the PC's, again make sure the firewalls have not renabled themselves. Did you get any util disks with your Wireless cards? Goto control panel and click the wireless network setup wizzard and follow the prompts

Well your disabling your firewall(s) temporarly which leaves you open to nasty worm infections and the best way to stop that is unplug from the network, you'l re-enable the firwalls once it's working

Yes and no, NAT won't let any packets through that your PC hasn't requested, but if you have any spyware on your PC then it'll come straight through as technically your PC has requested it, even though you didn;t realise

Hmm, about those connections, my wi-fi router has this problem with torrents whereby it hits a ceiling of maximum connections and kicks me off IE and MSN etc since torrent hogs all the connections. Would that little app help? How can i stop it happening?

Thats exactly why it happens mate, torrents take up lots and lots of connections, I use Shareaza..If you run the little patch it'll increase it to 50 by default but if you select a custom limit you can increase it to anything you wish. I found 50 too small so put it to 16 bit 65536 max connections which works a treat, get up to about 105 KB/S

You only have to run it once and it sticks forever more, but after the first re-boot windows might flag a File protection message stating a system file has been modified, this is normal as you have modified it so just dismiss it. If you are really worried you should make a copy of the tcp.sys (do a search of the winnt folder) then if you want you can just copy the orig back

Hmm, what im wondering is what would be a good setting below the maximum of the router? A setting that would provide enough connections for the torrent but also not too many for the router
