Hello,
Just wondering, what do people use 2 NICs for?
I know you can use a PC with 2 nics as a software router / firewall (eg smoothwall) - but what other uses are there with having 2 NICs?
Thanks
Josh

i have 2 NICs, one is for my NTL and one is for connectin to rest of network. servers can have 2 nics so they have two network addresses
can be useful if you want to have 2 networks accessing a server (ie wan/lan) with different security levels

As a backup? Maybe double the bandwidth?

Unless you need to route between 2 networks or more, or you need fail-over network redundancy there is no reason for having 2 NICS.

Only thing I have 2 NIC's for is the smoothwall....
you can use 2 nics on one lan with different addresses to provide (for instance) a dmz

You can bridge the two and connect three computers for cheaper than buying a hub maybe? I need two nics to share my university ethernet connection between my three computers (main rig, laptop, Acorn) and as my main rig is always on there's not much point in having a much more expensive router.
