    Supranet 1mb?

Just been over at uswitch.co.uk switching the gas and electric over, thought Id have a look at the DSL options on there

Top for savings was Supranet 1mb package at £23 a month

This would save me £5 a month on cost and increase my connection from 512 to 1mb. However Nildram have always been good and the hosting of games and gaming pings is superb. Will the trade up to 1mb offset the good connection i get via nildram?

Is it worth the switch? Is anyone on Supranet that can comment?

I nearly went with Nildram for their pipe quality and hosting services, but they were a fair bit dearer than most.

Not sure about SupaNet, but I'd say that it is a bad move to sacrifice good pings and a reliable server/pipe structure, for the sake of 60kB/s more bandwidth..

    Don't go with supanet.

I'm with them and I currently trying to get my MAC code off them without paying. When I first saw their price, like you, I thought this has got to be too good to be true and that was the case. They have, as referred to here, a bad boy pipe where if you downloaded more than around 800mb a day you go down to next to nothing speeds (worse than dial-up).

If you do think the price is right and that you don't mind your 'unlimited' transfer limited to 800mb per day then it's for you but please do have a look at that link and read about people's experiences. There have been a lot of people migrating away as well due to the poor customer service (akways blaming poor speeds on pipe upgrades which took months to come and then finally admitted about the throttling)

    www.plus.net

Although 3 months average at 120gb or more and you too will be on throttle for a month.

However 120gb is 4gb a day so to be honest i think thats more than reasonable.

Nildram offers uncapped adsl and wont put clamps on you for using their pipes.. it might cost a bit more but i think it would be worth it, im planning on switching over to them in march when my contract with BTInternet expires.

not worth the risk matey. Crap hosting is crap hosting. Period

bit like buying an amp for £400 that says 100W per channel

and then comparing it to something that says 400w per channel for only £49.99

no contest. Its theoretical peaks....not consistent. One thing I KNOW would peeve you to DEATH would be bad hosting.

I've just joined Demon with their HomeOffice1000 product:

    1MB/s down, 256KB up, uncapped
    No ports blocked
    Static IP
    Free connection
    20Mb Web Space, unlimited mails

I'm regularly getting 115Kb/s here, and pings to all the servers I'm interested in are 11-16ms...

£30 a month, which seemed fair to me. They don't get quite as high as Nildram on service scores on adslguide.org, but they do far far better than some of the others, as Demon also have big fat pipes...

Yea, demon is good, i used them early when ADSL was first rolled out in N.Ireland and i generally didn't have any problems with them (with exception of the odd dns/router problem at their end)

Supanet have had a lot of performance problems recently. They've been shedding customers left right and center. Terrible service and abysmal customer service by all accounts.

I recently migrated to a Hi-Velocity £23.99 per month for 1MB (Christmas special only) and, major problems in January aside , they're pretty good and have a great user forum. Their staff all seem genuinely comitted to providing a good service.

A couple of others to consider are PlusNET and Broadsurf.

It's also worth your while checking out ADSL Guide forums for more opinions.
