Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
After discovering that I cannot stream internet stuff to my Blu-ray player (Samsung BD-C6500) – with the exception of services like Netflix, which is provided by Samsung – I wonder how I can stream from my router to a free-standing not-wreless radio. I have an Ethernet cable from the router to the room where the radio is, and the radio has an AUX input port for stereo audio. Could I simply split the Ethenet cable, with one part going to the Blu-ray player (I watch VUDU movie via it) and the other to some kind of adapter that would have a stereo audio output port. If so, any suggestion for such an adapter?
Thanks for your help.

By non wireless radio do you mean a stereo receiver/Hi-fi?

It is a Bose radio, but the simplest one, without any frills. If you know Bose, great sound, expensive as hell. Bought it for my wife at an important birthday.
So, I am, in essence, wondering if there isn't a box and software, which makes it possible to stream anything from the Internet that you could see/hear on your PC also to a DVD/CD player, a radio, a TV, and so on.. Audio and video. And I am not talking about any services that you have to pay for (like Netflix, VUDU and so on). Also not boxes that are linked to such services, unless they can also provide what I envision.
I hope I am clear enough – I am not very good at A/V (yet :-)

Perhaps this is worth a look:

Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
sounds like you are looking for a chromecast audio, 20 quid at currys atm.
saying that, might not do everything you want, but it can stream internet radio, your music collection and probably podcasts if set up correctly
Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
If you like tinkering a raspberry pi can be setup to do what you want, you can also add a better DAC to improve the sound quality. You can control it from you phone / tablet / PC or add a small screen to it with some buttons. You would also need a small network switch. This setup can work with wireless or wired.
I haven't ever looked for network music players that have Ethernet, the ones I have looked at all use wifi, out of those the Chromecast audio looks like the cheapest solution.
Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
An Amazon Dot has an audio output and connects wirelessly so you could listen to radio via tunedin. Otherwise (as others have said) Google Cromecsst audio will do it. Amaxon Dot is controlled by voice, Chrome by an app on a mobile device.
Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
I've just ordered a couple of Chromecast Audios (£20 at Currys seems to be cheapest from the £30 RRP, though they've had it for £15 in the past) so I can stream music to my basic home cinema amp and some standalone speakers- the app is only necessary for "setting up" the device from what I can tell - after that it's a "standard" of sorts that various apps (mobile, desktop) can add support for.
Just looking at a few reviews, the "guest mode "and multi room audio features sounds very promising - not quite Sonos, but a heck of a lot cheaper.

Before I read anything, please let me tell you that I have gotten no notification of messages. Sorry for the delay. I will respond in a while.

Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
First, thanks for all your thoughtful comments. Second, while i have not digested everything completely, let me reiterate what I have:
Ethernet cable > Blu-Ray player > HDMI cable > TV
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Audio cable > Amplifier
With this setup, I cannot stream from the Internet.
---------------------
So, what I need might be this:
Ethernet cable > BOX > Ethernet cable > Blu-Ray player > HDMI cable (only Netflix and other subscribed services supported by the Blu-Ray player) > TV
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Audio cable > BOSE radio (for streaming from Internet; sound quality equivalent to Sonos, I would assume)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Audio/video cable > TV (for streaming from Internet)
Note 1: I would need software on the computer for "general" streaming
Note 2: The BOX would have to have 1) Ethernet In/Out, 2) audio out, and 3) audio/video out. And it would have to be able to convert digital audio to analog audio. What it has to be able to do with video, I do not know (kindly let me know!).
Is the above correct? And one more thing: is the PI Box just software?
Thanks for further comments on this. I am try to learn as well as getting the right stuff.

Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
Router>(chromecast/Roku/Amazon echo/other device )>audio out to Bose radio input.
Depending on the device it could connect wirelessly to the router. So you could connect an Amazon echo wirelessly to your router, then take an audio output to your Bose radio or other amplifier. It also has Bluetooth output so you could connect it to a Bluetooth speaker. You would need a subscription to Amazon's music service.
You can achieve a similar thing with other devices such as Googles Chromecast, or a Roku device or with an Apple TV box, with a subscription to the appropriate streaming service.

Not personally, no. I have decent experience with the Raspberry Pi for other things, but not that specifically.
In all honestly, I would recommend looking at the suggestions of other people, they are cost comparative, will work out the box and require less existing IT knowledge.
I got quite confused with your description about how things are connected, but assuming Wi-Fi isnt available, it sounds like you need more than one ethernet connection in the room, in which case perhaps you need to pick up a cheap switch also.

Will look at it again over the weekend. Thanks you, Peter.

Actually, Wi-Fi is available, but the earlier router I had did not cover the necessary area, so I drew an Ethernet cable over the attic into the TV room. So, when it is there, it seems natural to use it, although it may make things more complicated.
But muy need is not complicated. Say I am only interested in streaming A/V from the computer via my Ethernet cable to the TV/radio room. This cable would need to be connected to an adapter of some sort. And since my Blu-ray player only have LAN (Ethernet) IN, the adapter would have to have an Ethernet plug OUT. (So that would take care of my Blu-ray for playing Netflix via the Blu-ray to the TV; the Blu-ray is connected to the TV via HDMI).
Now the radio for streaming audio from the Internet/computer. The adapter would have to be a DAC.
And, the TV for streaming from the Internet/computer: something that converted Etherhnet in to A/V out.
And to stream from the Internet, I assumed that I would need some special software on the conputer.
Now, the solution might be complicated, but the need I have is rather straightforward. I would assume that nayone who want to stream from, for example, Youtube or Internet radio to their entertainment equipment, would be in the same situation. Or ...

Re: Internet streaming to a not-wireless radio
If you are using your computer to receive the stream from the internet, you only need an audio cable to connect the audio out from the computer to the auxiliary audio input to the Bose.
But you said n your first post that you were looking for a separate box to receive and decode the stream.
