Router wired network from BT telephone line

I'm trying to find one of these at the moment. I don't need wireless, and I will use it for gaming. Any ideas or reviews of one owned?

You mean a router without wi-fi? Draytek do several models without wi-fi.

It is also worth remembering that routers with wireless capability usually allow you to disable it.

Thanks guys. Yes I was being a bit general when I said not 'wireless'. I'd been looking at loads of reviews of 'best routers of 2017', and with the info overload my mind was frazzled.

I have found a Draytek model that looks suitable. I won't need wi-fi, so it just seems like added parts I don't need. Any more suggestions, or personally owned reviews, I'm still looking for the best model to suit my needs.

Re: Router wired network from BT telephone line

    earlier this year I upgraded to a Billion/bipac 8800nl r2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Billion-880.../dp/B01EVNR22K

saw it mentioned a few times on here in various threads.

does ADSL2+, VDSL2 (FTTC) , pretty much everything on all ISPs.

mines fully wired up without wireless turned on. 3 computers are on all the time, theres a netgear gs308 and my old tp-link w8970 that I just turn on and off. for when I do want wireless. and 2 more computers on occasionally.
only dropouts have been when BT/plusnet were doing maintenance on the box round the corner.

dad has poked about with the adjustable SNR settings in it, and we get 1.7MB/s from the 'up to 17mb' connection. so pretty happy with that.

Thanks stevie lee, that does look good, about half the price of the Draytek model I was considering. Plus it takes phone line or cable.

Re: Router wired network from BT telephone line

I had a Billion Router once.. the menu's were so complex I was bemused and flogged it.

    Hint for Drayteks.....

the wifi can break on them... there are threads here on HEXUS about mine dying) and then they sell cheaply....

    https://forums.hexus.net/networking-...ek-waning.html
look on ebay for one with broken wifi...

Its not really complex; some low power atom or smth + a quad gigabit card and a pfsense install == profit.

For some people that actually is complex though. If all someone wants is an off the shelf product they can plug in and use, building and configuring a PFSense router is massive overkill.

I'm using an EdgeRouter Lite because I wanted a bit more control and my wireless access points are elsewhere in the house. On paper this would fit the bill for the OP, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to him as it's a long way away from plug and go.

Re: Router wired network from BT telephone line

Thanks guys. I certainly don't want to build it myself. I'll just be happy to stop these drop outs!

I ended up buying a TP-Link AC 1600 VDSL/ADSL router(Archer VR600). Mainly after doing the usual review readings(reliability being a problem), and reaching a compromise. It seems to offer possibility of upgrade to cable, plus 10x ethernet speeds.
