Need to see my printer from another PC

I hope someone can help me out here.

My recently built PC system is connected to my Epson CX-5200 multi-function printer via USB and it all works fine. That PC is connected to the Internet via a Wi-Fi ADSL router.

I also use my work laptop on this WiFi network and connect to my company network via Extranet (VPN) software. I sometimes need to print things but have to resport to unplugging the Epson printer from my home PC and plugging it into my work laptop.

Is there a way I can print to my printer from my work laptop whilst connected to my works network via VPN without physically connecting the printer?

You need to enable *sharing* on the printer. Once enabled, log onto your laptop, map the printer, and check the option to always connect when you log on.

Right, I need to share it out on my main PC (to which it is connected directly). However, remember that my laptop is connected via VPN to my works network, hence my laptop connectivity will not know about my WiFi (workgroup) network. The Xtranet software remaps all my TCP/IP settings so that I appear on my work domain via IP tunnelling. I'll go it a go anyway to see if it works.

I've got a feeling that i'll need to have my printer appear as a local printer on my laptop rather than a network printer somehow.

Your VPN software and your WiFi adaptor should be treated as different 'apaptors' as far as Windoze is concerned. If need be, you could configure your home network to a different private IP range and force the WiFi to use that..

    Taz,

I agree with you on that. I too VPN to work once in a while on my laptop. On my VPN connetion though, I have an option to set it to working outside my work(while still connect through VPN) or working through VPN tunneling... I guess it would depend on how your VPN software is configured...
