ok, depending on your OS but you need an mail server package to send out mail and recive it.

on a unix os qmail, postfix, sendmail, there are tons, on windows Exchange seems to be the only worthwhile product.

you could really do with a static IP, as moving IP's are not great for mail as you need an MX record in DNS to point to you IP address.

Once you've got all that running you need to decide how your going to access your mail, eg: pop3, imap, webmail, exchange protocol etc etc.

spec out what you want to achieve and what you've got and we'll come up with something for you.
    It is Inevitable.....

    cheers.

i was thinking Debian - if possible.

Do I use one of my present domain names. I've heard that most ISPs don't like one hosting website from home, does the same apply with mail servers.

If the server goes down does the sender at the other end receives a non-deliverable message thing?

    I was thinking IMAP.

    What sort of spec. comp?

This is just curiosity, it probably won't equate to anything soon but in a few years time. And to improve my knowledge!

    Any more qs. just ask.

    Cheers
    Matt
