How does one BUY a domain? e.g. permamently have, not paying a monthly sub.

The best you can do if you want a domain name permanently is to pay for a long time at once, like 10 years or so.

you do own your domain for two years then you can renew it. no one else can get it unless you dont renew it.

Sorry to ressurect this thread. How do people sell domains on ebay then, are they just selling as it were the oppourtunity for the purchaser to renew it otherwise the previous owner would have renewed it. If you see what I mean!

They are able to transfer the domain to you if you buy it. So yes, you would then have the right to renew that domain as well as having ownership for the time remaining until a renewal is required.
