Upgrading wifi /home network.
I currently use a Zyxel wireless N router with integrated vdsl modem . I purchased it in 2013 so I have got my money worth out of it. It has had quite a few firmware upgrades etc.
I have already purchased a Separate draytek vdsl modem as I intend to get separate devices this time.
I am intending to go for business products as they are supported for longer and don't have any gimmicks.
I am currently looking at either https://unifi-nanohd.ui.com or https://www.engeniusnetworks.eu/prod...ints/ews357ap/
The nano hd gets very good reviews and is based on proven wave to AC wifi and is a much cheaper access point.
The EnGenius access point has similar features is based on AX wifi and is due to support WPA3 later in the year. It is more expensive but also more future proof. doesn't look like this comes with poe injector or power supply in the box. (it has a power output next to the lan port) which would add even more cost.
I live in a two bedroom semi detached house so range shouldn't be an issue even if i did go for consumer products.
I will most likely replace the router later in the year. I like the idea of the Unfi integration however based on the reviews the USG seems to be underpowered as well as only having two lan ports. The long term goal would be to purchase a poe switch. the edgemax 6P router gets very good reviews and I was hoping unfi would release a new USG with the same specs as that.
I know that future proofing is largely not possible however I am mostly looking for something that is stable and has routine updates.
I currently have a fttc connection from plusnet (around 60) however I could get virgin media up to 500 if I wanted to.
If anyone has experience with the consumer routers in terms of updates, stability etc that would be helpful. I have briefly looked at the wifi AX routers from Netgear,Asus and TPlink. The TPlink and Asus routers both have security from trend micro. Not entirely sure how good that is and exactly what it covers.
Re: Upgrading wifi /home network.
Decided to go for the overkill route in the end with https://www.engeniusnetworks.eu/prod...ints/ews357ap/
Not got a POE switch so had to get an injector for now.
Re: Upgrading wifi /home network.
I was going to say I have had good experiences with the ubiquiti devices, although they are not stand alone as they need a dedicated app to configure and control them.
Re: Upgrading wifi /home network.
I believe you can configure Ubiquiti devices with an Android app. And possibly via a CLI. But normally, yeah, you have to run a configuration service (which you don't want to lose really, as if you need to reconfigure...)

According to my experience, netgear is the best among Asus, netgear and TP Link
Re: Upgrading wifi /home network.
I've tried a few bought routers and it's always been hit or miss (stability under load and features). I personally think the Virgin Media hub 3 is actually pretty good compromise in terms of stability and have enough settings for my needs plus an isolated guest network.
Do check out these DD-WRT supported routers https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.p...ported_Devices if you like to tinker and Max out on features etc.

Could you elaborate on that, please?
