Re: Virgin Hub 3 and 3rd party router as advice

I'm only using RJ45. I've tried the reset button on the back as per the manual instructions. They recommended doing this when you use it for the first time and that worked ok as all the lights cycled properly.

I've tried the hard reset method as well holding the WPS button when powering on, but the power light never started flashing.

Read a few other suggestions I found and currently have it without the WAN cable in and just 1 LAN cable, but still no joy. Tried powering off for ages but still nothing.

It currently only has the power light on solid. Left it for ages hoping it'd kick in but not a peep.

Lol, I'm worse of than yesterday, and £200 poorer as well

Sounds like a messed up update or a faulty router, did you get it from Amazon? If so just use the Virgin for now and contact Amazon and they will send a new one

Left it unpowered overnight just on the off chance it'd let me in but still no luck.

    Amazon sending another one out

Re: Virgin Hub 3 and 3rd party router as advice

I've been running an AC87 in the same setup for 3 years, I got it for what I thought was an exorbitant £118 from Amazon, when it was on sale in Currys for £73 but they didn't have any. Now it's around £170 I think I've got a bit of a bargain. It's never missed a beat, regularly providing 200mbps+ over wifi...

The only time it ever dropped was a VM issue, not the router.

Ok I'm up and running on the replacement and it is a beauty.

    Current 3.0.0.4.384_20942-ge38bead (May 2018)

    Update: 3.0.0.4.384.45717 (2019/05/13)

Think that's at least 7 updates full of stuff I have no clue about. LOL

Reading the latest one there seems to be a lot of people having problems with it, and that was back in May.

Damn why does it need to be this confusing?

If what you have is working then stick with it until you see a stable release that other people are happy with. Then, THINK about updating

Re: Virgin Hub 3 and 3rd party router as advice

I think I'm really going appreciate the Hub 3 and AC88U in the winter months, but the heat that the pair of them are putting out now is crazy.

I'm going to have to take my anorak off in a minute at this rate

Re: Virgin Hub 3 and 3rd party router as advice

Just my 2p worth, I've moved to a pfsense box (Lenovo SFF PC for 30 quid) to deal with the routing / firewall and a set of bt whole home wi-fi mesh disk's [back haul over home plugs).

I have now ended up with rocksolid wi-fi through the home and into the garden, no more drop outs or other random stuff, it all just seems to run smoother but that is helped with the fact am running a local squid proxy possibly.

Yes it means separates but I found my old RT-AC68U (Router) / RT-N66U (Wireless AP) with each version of the firmware (be that stock or merlins) just seem to be getting slower and slower with frequent wireless issues or other oddness

Its not for everybody and if i was doing this again i might have gone with OpenSense but i am happy that i moved away from consumer grade 'routers'
