Virgin Hub 3 and 3rd party router as advice

Arrrrgh this Hub 3 is going to be the cause of a violent rampage at this rate!

I had VM finally connected today and trying to set up this Hub 3 router, and it's a frustrating piece of crap. Apart from its slow ui half the stuff im trying to do like changing ssid names for the dual bands etc, it just doesn't save or kicks me out. The biggest pain however is it won't let me change the ip from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1.

I've got thousand of films, TV shows, movies and such, on various devices on the network all configured to 1.x which I can't find config files to edit so will mean reimporting which I really don't want to do.

If I put the Hub 3 into modern mode on 0.1, can I get a 3rd part router for the network on 1.1 and still get it to use the Hub for its internet on 0.1?

so I have a separate router running on the usual 192.168.1.1 et al piggy backed off the VM hub in modem mode only

you stick the VM hub into modem mode in its admin pages. (For good measure turn off all the wifi first and set passwords to new ones, nothing default, just in case it jumps out of modem mode after a restart in future)

plug in the ethernet cable to the BOTTOM most network port on the hub to the incoming feed on the router (mine had a big yellow socket to make it clear)

The VM router log-in changes from the weird 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.100.1. All the other 192.168.1.etc go to your router, not the hub. Hope that helps.

Edit i say bottom it might be top - It's one of the two. Only one port will work, the other three are now defunct.

Make sure your router has built in firewall etc. The hub Modem mode turns off the virgin side of things.

That's great thank you guys. Can't remember last time I actually bought a router. Any recommendations for day between £150 to £200 Max? Wound need to have gigabit ports, and tri band would be nice but not a deal breaker

the higher end ones by asus or netgear seem to get good reviews in terms of delivering speed. Like anything read the reviews and check the specs to ensure it has the features you need.

I went with the ASUS RT-AC88U AC3100 in the end. No WPA3 but it ticked so many other boxes for me that I think I can live without it.

I've twated about with the Hub 3 all day today and guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow now. So much for a weekend off

Well it started good but soon went South.

I got the Asus AC88U. Stuck the Hub 3 in Modem Mode (purple light)

Set the Asus up. Booted and got to the browser setup, renamed SSIS, Admin, Passwords through first use prompts.

It then said it needed a FW update, which it did so internet worked, a full set of leds and such.

Then came up saying done, any wifi would need to connect on new SSID's, and then asked for the admin login. I did this and the page went white and lost connection.

I've tried rebooting it several times, disconnected power for ages, even tried holding in reset button, but when I power on the only light that staying constantly blinking fast it the LAN ports and nothing else. Not even the powere led. Every now and again the internet led blinks for a few seconds and then nothing.

Sigh. I thought it'd all be long done by now. Any ideas guys?

I think there is a button on the router to turn the lights on and off so make sure you haven't done that by mistake

can you connect to it via RJ45 (ethernet)? Is it just wifi that's affected, or is it everything?

what does the manual say in its troubleshooting pages?

Does the manual recommend a forced reset?
