    Outdoor Network Cable

    Hi,

I have the following cable from some time ago which I ran under floorbaords etc, but would now like to run another length but on an external wall without trunking.

    • Belkin components CAT6 High Performance #R7L704 E129760-C (UL) TYPE CMR 4 Pair UTP 24AWG SOLID FT4 www.belkin.com

It is grey in colour, quite solid / rigid, and has the crtoss separator internally to keep each pair separate.

Anyone come across this cable, or alternatively have any recommendations ?

    Thanks.

    Re: Outdoor Network Cable

I bought a reel of external cat5 from cable monkey. Then crimped it myself. This would be your best option. They also do Cat 6 - and all other cable types/needs. (https://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/cat6a-...tch-leads.html). The only cable suitable for outdoors is external cable as it has different shielding etc.

    Re: Outdoor Network Cable

You have to be careful about which cable you use outdoors as UV can end up degrading the insulation. It's not really a safety concern for data cable as it would be for power cable but if it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

Is the cable rated for outdoor use? Outdoor cable is typically black, but not always. Though it being black doesn't mean it's outdoor cable either...

    Another vote for cablemonkey though.

I've not used those cables specifically but they look fine.

    Re: Outdoor Network Cable

I must admit I've just used the standard cat6 cables for a short drop outside.
