Having a bit of an issue....

    Got two BB connections:

    Home (Tiscali 256k)
    Work (BT 512k)

Got my PC set up through the router to use the work line obviously coz its a faster speed connection.
My issue is that my email addy is Tiscali so I set up Outlook Express with all the Server details but it wouldnt SEND emails.
Ive installed the Tiscali modem back onto my PC to be able to send emails and this is causing all sorts of problems. Because of re-installing Tiscali Ive also re-installed Zone Alarm coz Im not sure when Im using what connection so cant be sure if Im safely tucked behind the router or not.

Anyways - its all good until I want to send an email and then I have to connect to Tiscali, at this point it seems that Tiscali takes over as my connection - which I dont really want coz its slower!

Anyone know if I can use my Tiscali email account without being connected via my Tiscali connection - before I re-installed it I could receive but not send emails?
Apart from getting a new email address with someone else Im at a bit of a loss what to do - its annoying coz Im now getting requests from Tiscali to connect when I dont want to and Zone Alarm alerts every 5 seconds when the connection swaps over.

Not really sure if Ive posted this in the right place or not?? But please HELP!!

if you want to send outbound through the BT connection you'll need to use the BT SMTP server ( this is something like mail.btconnect.com or mail.btopenworld.com )

this is because tiscali wont let you access their SMTP relay from outside of their network

Righty - do you reckon I need a BT username and password to access their SMTP server? Im guessing that I probably do.....

you might need to use authenticated SMTP - its been a while since I had to use their relay :/

if so, then its probably the same as your regular BT DSL username/password

    there is a plan "B" ( as ever )

have a look at the trial versino of maildirect - you can run your own SMTP server.
