    Problem With Networking Another PC

Having a hard time here, trying to get a computer (secondary) onto the network.

All the other PC's (Main and my sister's) can see its presense on the network, but it can't see anything. Now the internet suddenly stopped working on the PC also, but the others are fine.

I tried to release and renew the IP and it throws up an error saying "The RPC server is unavaible." (Within DOS)

So i checked over all the settings and i cant find anything at all. I have done a google, and all i found was virus warnings etc. The only thing i can think of is when i was overclocking it, as it wasnt posting and BSOD'ing etc, so i may have knackered XP? Also, i dont recall telling it to do anything when installing XP, when it got the the network setup bit.

Reformat, or can this be solved within XP?

    Thanks in advance.

It says "The RPC server is unavailable"? Are you sure it doesn't say "The DHCP server is unavailable"?

How are you connecting the machine, wired or wirelessly?

If you go into "Start, Network Connections" do you see one or more Local Area Connections? If so, are they shown as connected or disconnected?

The network is wired, it definitely says RCP, and it is connected to the "Local Area Network" which all seems correct. I've turned all firewalls on both machines off incase they were causing problems.

Now (after a reboot) it isnt giving me that error. But it still isnt wanting to be on the network. :S Usually, XP just finds the network etc and i just set up what drives to share. Think I'll just format it again

normally i would recommend doing a network boot disk (on the main one) then putting it
in the one that doesnt work. But normally you only have to do that if its win98 etc if
its not working. Still give it a try

Its just strange, all my computers automatically detect the network etc, apart from this. It's previously been on the network as my main PC, but now its acting up. I think ill just format and try again, as no matter what i try, it isnt working.

    Thanks for your help
