    Virgin wifi

Why is my virgin wifi always disconnecting every 30mins or so. It disconnects devices in the house randomly or just restarts itself like it has a heat issue or something. So annoying especially in game always disconnecting.

    Re: Virgin wifi

Are you on the Hub 3.0?

The first thing I would try is a factory reset. Failing that, I'd be looking into a third party router.
My experience of Virgin's internet changed from fairly poor to just about perfect by getting a better router and using the Hub 3.0 in modem mode.

The new 4.0 is just as bad to be honest. Try and get hold of them is a joke as well.

I have a hub 3 on the shelf doing nothing. We went back to hub2.5 as it is just more stable. Luckily they were willing to reinstate that version. If they ask for a router back when I leave they can have the 3.0. That 2.5 is not going anywhere!

What are the differences with the 2.5? I've only had a 3.0 and had the occasional issue myself.

    Re: Virgin wifi

The 3 and 4 use puma chips with inherent flaws hardware based causing latency spikes and packet loss. They cannot be completely dealt with by the firmware patches that took ages to produce and finally rolled out last year. VM missed the opportunity to ditch pills puma and do something else in hub 4, but they went with the new puma version that still struggles.

Mine has been really flaky lately and restarting a few times a week. It was fine before which is odd

when i got my 3 i kept the 2.5 but when i got the 4 they wanted the 3 back and took the tivo back. i think they just want back gear that they still issue. so whilst loads of people will have old gear, if it breaks they give them something newer

i've actually still got my first "hub" from the 1-10mb days. i use my 2.5 hub to expand the switch in the living room and use as a wifi repeater. mainly use ethernet apart from the odd mobile device as unless the device is within arms length of the "super" hub the signal is awful

can't fault the 1gb ethernet experience though. maxes out the pc whilst at the same time not breaking a sweat on netflix or iplayer etc, even with 4k stuff

whilst the hubs wifi isn't great, you shouldn't be getting so many disconnects unless you are moving out of range or the router isn't set up right. i'd suggest the op has a look at the settings whilst googling optimal hub settings and looking at the settings and turning off firewall etc just in case

I often find with routers they come with really cheap wall wart power supplies which go flaky. Don't know if the VM routers are like that.

I just replaced my WiFi with a TP Link Deco mesh setup. I used existing powerline adapters as backhaul so I could get three Deco S4 units for £100. I could probably have gotten away with two.

ah right, interesting. Atleast I haven't had persistent problems, just the occasional ones. maybe they'll change in hub 5.

Same setup here bar the fact i went with the BT Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh Kit (3 of) since then not one issue with range / coverage so I can recommend this method

I had a guy telling me recently that if you complain to virgin they'll upgrade you for free but i've had hassle contacting them too so not sure if I should bother trying.

    Re: Virgin wifi

Hope so as they're so hard to contact . My hub is 3.0 and literally disconnects like every 20 minutes. All devices connected loose connection for few seconds and sometimes few minutes. Cant game as it keeps kicking you out of a match. Cant believe it.

Sounds about right for hub 3. Alexa just disconnected all the time, couldn't hold a connection etc. What firmware is it on? Does it have the patch?
